✎ Editor's Review
Orion Black has delivered a genuinely epic fantasy that earns every one of its five-star ratings. The world-building is exceptional — Aldoria feels like a living, breathing kingdom with a history that stretches back millennia. The magic system of sealed leylines and crown-bonded rulers is innovative and serves the story rather than overwhelming it. Finn is an everyman protagonist who earns his growth through hardship rather than entitlement, and the supporting cast is uniformly excellent. The ghostly Ser Valerius provides both comic relief and genuine pathos, while the antagonist Malvok is complex enough to be compelling without losing his threatening edge. The prose is muscular and evocative, balancing action set-pieces with quieter character moments. This is epic fantasy as it should be written: ambitious, emotional, and deeply satisfying. A triumph.
