The Midnight Protocol
Ex-CIA operative Jack Rourke has been off the grid for three years, living under an assumed name in a small coastal town. He left the agency after an operation in Eastern Europe went catastrophically wrong, and he has spent every day since trying to forget. But the past does not forget Jack. When a former colleague shows up at his door with a bullet in his chest and a flash drive in his hand, Jack is pulled back into a world he thought he had left behind. The flash drive contains evidence that a faction within the CIA has been running a black-ops assassination program for the past decade, targeting whistleblowers, journalists, and anyone who poses a threat to the agency's secrets. The program is called the Midnight Protocol, and it is about to be activated against Jack. With a team of rogue operatives hunting him, Jack must stay alive long enough to expose the truth, even if it means confronting the mission in Eastern Europe that broke him.

✎ Editor's Review
Victor Kane delivers a punchy, fast-paced espionage thriller that grabs you from page one and does not let go. Jack Rourke is a solid thriller protagonist — damaged but capable, haunted but determined. The conspiracy within the CIA is well-constructed and uncomfortably plausible. The action sequences are expertly choreographed, and the pacing is relentless. Some character motivations in the final act feel rushed, but the ride is so entertaining that few readers will care. A top-tier thriller that earns its bestseller status.
